World Peace Forum

Initiated in 2012, the World Peace Forum is organized by Tsinghua University with assistance from Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and undertaken by the Institute of International Relations of Tsinghua University. It is China’s first non-governmental high-level forum on international security. The World Peace Forum was institutionalized in 2013 and was scheduled to be held on a regular basis every summer. Its purpose is to provide a platform for strategists around the world to discuss international security issues on how to deal with global or regional security threats and how to strengthen international security cooperation, discuss the security issues of concern to China and promote China’s security claims, so as to improve China’s discourse right on international security issues.

The current Chairman of the Forum is Tang Jiaxuan, former State Councilor, while Vice Chairpersons of the Forum include Yang Jiechi, State Councilor, Chen Baosheng, Minister of Education, Wu Hailong, Director of Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affair and Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua University concurrently who concurrently serves as Council Director of the Forum. The Secretary General of the Forum is Yan Xuetong, Director of Institute of Modern International Relations of Tsinghua University
