Introduction
Junqiang LIU（刘军强）is a professor of sociology at Tsinghua University. He was educated at Nankai, CUHK and Harvard respectively. His research focuses two fields: social policy and local governance. He traced the origins, development and governance of the mega-social protection system in China, which might be one of the largest worldwide. He is interested in figuring out why people do not utilize social services that government invest heavily, like employment training, nursing home, public housing et al.
Before joining Tsinghua, Professor LIU participated a poverty reduction program and served as vice mayor in an indigenous county in South China from 2015 to 2016. Professor LIU authored two books. One of them, the Craft of Writing, was published in 2020, and has been reprinted 14 times to this day.
